God Sightings: One Faith

By: Helena Schuurman

I’ve noticed a little trend that Redeemer students go through every year. Right around this time at the
end of January and beginning of February, a mad hussle begins as we make plans for the coming school
year, the coming summer season, housing applications, campus jobs, you name it. It’s a time of fresh
excitement and anticipation for what’s to come. It can also be hard.

It’s hard because it’s an unknown. Every crossroad we come towards along our way is another
reminder that we are not in control. And that can be jarring and heavy.

But it’s also an opportunity for reflection and growth. In Eugene Peterson’s paraphrase of Matthew 6, it
says, “Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don’t get worked up about what
may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the
time comes” (v. 34).

That’s a promise we can have faith in: the Lord of the universe has tomorrow in your hands, so that you
now have the opportunity to enjoy today.

For your reflection:

1) How might you give your entire attention to God in this moment, this hour, this day?

2) What is one thing that you are currently carrying which you could invite God to carry with you/for you?
