Choir gives impromptu concert at Parliament during last leg of 2016 tour

During the last leg of their 2016 tour, Redeemer’s Concert Choir sang – twice – in the Centre Block of Parliament. While touring the parliament buildings, they were invited by staff to sing a piece in the Library and then again in the Peace Tower. The pieces were captured on smartphones and shared widely on social media.

The choir sang “O Magnum Mysterium” by Morten Lauridsen in the rotunda of the Peace Tower in Parliament’s Centre Block. André Schutten, Association for Reformed Political Action director of law and policy and general legal counsel, captured videos of the performance from the second floor of the Peace Tower. Schutten shared a clip of the performance in a Facebook post. It has been viewed nearly 20,000 times since Schutten posted it yesterday. Schutten praised the choir for a “reverent performance within the grandeur of the halls of Canadian power.”

Watch two clips of the choir’s performance:

The Minister of Justice and Attorney General Jody Wilson-Raybould captured the choir’s song in the parliamentary library. She tweeted: “Walked into the Parliamentary Library today and a choir broke out: WOW!”

Alumni, parents and choir members past and present also shared the clips. So far, Schutten’s video has been shared hundreds of times on Facebook.
