Redeemer University College has their first ever basketball CCAA All-Canadian. Men’s basketball star, night at the men’s basketball awards banquet, when he was honoured with one of the leagues top awards.

Higdon was in attendance at the event, hosted by Humber College at the Holiday Inn Toronto East. The banquet was the kick-off to the OCAA Men’s Basketball Provincial Championship running.

While Redeemer did not qualify for the Championship, the All-Canadian nod for Higdon will offer some consolation for the hard working Royals basketball team to finish off the 2015-16 season.

What makes Rayvon such a special player is his unselfishness. He will do whatever it takes to put our team in a position to win, but he doesn’t need to be the centre of attention.

For Redeemer, it is another positive step in the right direction for the Royals basketball programs. The ability to attract elite athletes to Redeemer has never been more evident than this past year. Three individuals across three different programs were named CCAA All-Canadians with two of them receiving Player of the Year honours. Higdon joins badminton player Owen Kurvits and women’s volleyball player Curtiss Straatsma who have already been named All-Canadians in their respective sports.

Higdon, who is in his first year with the Royals, had a very impressive 2015-16 season. He was top 10 in the OCAA in points per game, points, assists, defensive rebounds, rebounds per game, field goals and field goal percentage.

Rayvon was also named an OCAA first team all-star.

Head Coach Jamie Girolametto was thrilled with the honour and with how Rayvon has evolved over the season. “We asked Rayvon to do everything this year, and he excelled at everything,” commented Girolametto. “His stats speak for themselves. What makes Rayvon such a special player is his unselfishness. He will do whatever it takes to put our team in a position to win, but he doesn’t need to be the centre of attention.  That is a rare trait!  He is a special student athlete.”
