Representatives of the Christian academy join North American think tanks in sponsoring Redeemer’s Emerging Public Intellectual Award.

The Centre for Christian Scholarship is pleased to welcome two new sponsors to its annual Emerging Public Intellectual (EPI) Award. The EPI Award fosters emerging talent in the Christian academy, recognizing faculty who excel in both academic and public spheres and whose work impacts the common good.

The EPI adds to its already impressive sponsorship list (including think tanks Cardus, the Acton Institute, and the Center for Public Justice) by welcoming the Council for Christian Colleges & Universities (CCCU) and the Henry Institute for the Study of Christianity and Politics at Calvin College.

“One way that our institutions contribute to the common good is by nurturing and supporting intellectual life among professors that influences the important public conversations in contemporary society.”

“The CCCU is committed to advancing Christian higher education because we believe that Christian colleges and universities are good for society. One way that our institutions contribute to the common good is by nurturing and supporting intellectual life among professors that influences the important public conversations in contemporary society,” says Dr. Rick Ostrander, vice president for academic affairs & professional programs at the CCCU. Dr. Ostrander will represent the CCCU on the Centre for Christian Scholarship’s Awards Committee, with selects winners of the EPI award each fall. “I’m grateful, therefore, to support the Emerging Public Intellectual Award and hope that it helps to inspire and reward vibrant public scholarship at our member institutions.”

Dr. Kevin Den Dulk, executive director of the Henry Institute, agrees: “Our goal at the Henry Institute is to foster scholarly work and civic engagement that takes seriously the variety of Christian approaches to the difficult public problems of our day. The Emerging Public Intellectual award recognizes the up-and-coming thinkers who put that goal into practice. We’re pleased to partner with the Centre for Christian Scholarship in supporting this important work.”

The Emerging Public Intellectual Award is a major initiative of the Centre for Christian Scholarship, which builds outstanding Christian research and thought and connects it to the questions our neighbours are asking. Redeemer is at the vanguard of an international movement to propel Christian research and scholarship into the public sphere, where it can positively impact the common good.
