Saturday, August 31

12 pm Redeemer University College campus officially opens to all new students.
12 pm  – 4 pm Check-in Process (Academic Building)

All new students are invited to complete a simple check-in process located in the main building. There will be sings posted around the school to direct you, so just follow them. After check-in, students living on-campus will have the opportunity to move into their dorms and meet their Resident Advisor.

3 pm Circle of Parents (Room 213)

All parents of first year students are invited to attend this meaningful hour hosted by the Dean of Students. Come ask questions, share hopes/fears and join together in prayer.

3:30 pm Commuter Students Meeting (Room 210)

Come meet other commuters as well as your commuter student advisors. Commuter advisors are returning students whose role is to help you transition into university life.  They are eager to meet you, pass along helpful information and host you at the Welcome BBQ to follow

4 pm to 5:30 pm Welcome BBQ (Front Quad)

All new students AND their families are invited to gather in the Quad for a celebratory BBQ dinner.  There will be a prayer of blessing for the new students and their families at the end of the BBQ before final good-byes are given.

6 pm LAUNCH Team Meeting (Assigned Parking Lots)

All first-year students are asked to gather with their LAUNCH Team. LAUNCH teams will be announced on the website in June, so stay tuned! Your first meeting will take place in the parking lot just outside the Residence.

6:30 pm LAUNCH Opening Ceremonies (Auditorium)

Welcome to Redeemer! As a LAUNCH Team, you will join other new students in the Auditorium to meet the rest of the Class of 2023. We’ll hang out for a couple of hours, learn more about LAUNCH/Redeemer, and have fun playing games and getting to know each other. Throughout LAUNCH your team can earn points towards winning The Cooper Cup (which will be on display during this event).

10 pm First Year Meetings and Devotions (Dorms)

Your first gathering as a dorm! These meetings are mandatory for all first year students living on campus. Dorm meetings for the rest of the first week will be explained to you by your Resident Advisor.


Sunday, September 1

10 am – Worship Service (Auditorium)

Join fellow Redeemer students in the auditorium for a time of communal worship to start off the year. Members of various Redeemer worship teams and our chaplain will be leading this service.

12 pm to 1 pm – Lunch in the dorms

1 pm to 4:30 pm – Hamilton Harbour Trip (Meet in your parking lot)

Come explore more of the Hamilton area with your dorm during this relaxing outing at the Harbour. There are plenty of parks and walking trails around so bring frisbees, footballs, cards, or anything else needed to enjoy Hamilton’s beautiful waterfront.

4:30 pm to 6:30 pm – Cooking Together!

All first-year students living on campus are required to be in their residences for a special time with their dorm mates cooking the first meal together.

7 pm – Games Night (Rec Centre)

Redeemer loves board games and we’ve got many for you to choose from. In fact, we love them so much that Student Life actually has a board game library where you can sign out games throughout the week. Come out to the rec. centre to check out our selection and meet some more people.

7 pm – Pick-up Soccer (North Field)

Get a taste of what recreational sports are like here at Redeemer by coming out to play. All skill levels are invited for this fun filled activity.

Monday, September 2

10 am – 11:30 am – Food Drive Flyer Delivery (Rec Centre)

At Redeemer, community service is an integral part of your education. Join your LAUNCH team in delivering food drive invitations to your route in the Meadowlands neighbourhood. Pay attention because you will be returning to this route on Friday evening to collect bags of food.  (Attendance = 5 LAUNCH points)  

12:30 pm – Commuter Student Lunch (Rec Centre)

Join the Commuter Advisors in the Rec Centre for some pizza as you reflect on the weekend and prepare for LAUNCH Olympics.

1:45 pm Athletes March to LAUNCH Olympics (Calvin Court)

Members of Mission Control will meet you at your dorms and lead you to LAUNCH Olympics. Be sure you’re ready with a team cheer as you’ll be earning points for team spirit.

2 pm – LAUNCH Olympics (fields near Rec Centre)

Join your LAUNCH Team for the annual, unforgettable LAUNCH Olympics! Wear old clothes and old shoes (shoes must be either sneakers or sandals that fasten and do not slip off) –  you just might get a little dirty! Points for the Cooper Cup are awarded at this event for team spirit so it’s important that you attend. If it is inclement weather, the LAUNCH Olympics will occur on Saturday, September 7 at 10 a.m.

7 pm – Movie Night (Rec Centre)

Relax after an active day by watching a movie and chilling on the comfy couches in the Rec Centre.

7 pm – Ultimate Frisbee (North Field)

Do you still have energy after the LAUNCH Olympics? Come play ultimate frisbee and make new friends in the process. All are welcome.

Tuesday, September 3

10 am – Academic Introduction (Auditorium)

The mission of Redeemer is to provide a liberal-arts education that deepens your faith, transforms your mind, helps you discover your world and allows you to find your calling.  This session will introduce the academic program at Redeemer and how the faculty and staff plan to journey with you through-out your education.

11 am – Tea with the Professors (Assigned classrooms)

Enjoy a piece of cake and a cup of coffee/tea with Redeemer professors. They are eager to meet and get to know you. The professors will be in various rooms according to majors/minors and you can choose which one to attend.

12 pm – Lunch Break (Dorms)

For those in Residence, feel free to head back to your dorm to relax and grab a bite to eat.  Make sure you are in your residence at 1:30pm as there may be a task required of you that will earn your LAUNCH team lots of points!

12 pm – Commuter Students Lunch & Orientation (Executive Dining Room)

All commuter students are invited to join key student life staff for lunch. There will be an opportunity to meet other commuter students and hear what supports are in place for making the transition into Redeemer’s community as a commuter.

1:30 pm – Reverse Redeemer Tour / Mystery Activity (Assigned Parking Lots)

After lunch head outside to your porches to meet a few helpful Redeemer staff who plan to stop by and say hi! They are eager to introduce themselves to you and explain their role at Redeemer.  Commuters please meet with your LAUNCH team in 3rd Parking lot (Cranmer Court).

3:45 pm – 4:45pm – Community Life Orientation Session (Auditorium)

This session will introduce key Student Life staff and you’ll learn how you can be part of making Redeemer University College a fun, safe and respecting environment for all.  This session will be helpful for all students including commuters, those in residence, mature students (25+) and international students.

5 pm – 6 pm – First Communal Meal (Dining Hall)

On-campus students on the meal plan eat together in the dining hall every Wednesday. Bring your student card to get in. If you are not on the meal plan dinner can be purchased at the door.

6:30 pm – Night Classes Begin!

7 pm – Games Night Take Two (Rec Centre)

Join us for this great Redeemer tradition in the rec. centre. Games available include, Settler’s, Codenames, Catchphrase, Spoons and more. Come out and play your favourite game or try something new.

Wednesday, September 4

Regular Class Schedule Continues  

10:45 am – Class Photo (Front Quad)

New students are dismissed from class to gather for a photo. For students who don’t have class, please meet us in the Front Quad (the grassy area in the middle of the academic building).

11 am – 12 pm – Opening Convocation (Auditorium)

The entire Redeemer University College community will join in celebration and worship to begin the new academic year. The President will lead the worship and the faculty will enter dressed in their academic regalia. Feel free to invite family and friends.

5 pm – 6:30 pm – Welcome Back BBQ (Front Quad)

This BBQ is for all students, faculty and staff and their families to celebrate the beginning of a new academic year.

6:30pm – 9:15pm – Talize Shopping Trip and Learn to take the HSR City Bus (Meet @ Front Quad)

Come check out the stores available near the Upper James and Rymal Bus Stop including Talize, a used-clothing and costume store.  Talize would be a great place to pick up an outfit for the Decade Dance and this trip will also be led by experienced HSR city bus riders who can teach you everything you need to know about getting around by bus.  (Attendance = 5 LAUNCH points) Bring your Presto Card (bus pass).

Thursday, September 5

Regular Class Schedule Continues

5 pm – 6:30 pm – Mystery Dorm Dinner

If your dorm signs up to participate, your dorm will be assigned as a “mystery” dorm to either host dinner or be a guest for dinner. Inviting a dorm over for dinner is a long-standing tradition at Redeemer. The host dorm provides the salad and main course for 16 people. The guest dorm makes dessert for everybody and stays to do the dishes. A Mission Control person will deliver the number of the dorm you will attend at 5:00 pm. Earn LAUNCH points for participating.

9:30 pm Hot Spot Worship Night (Rec Centre)

Bring your voices for a time of worship and fellowship in the Rec Centre. Student Senate Spiritual and Service Committee (SASC) present the first monthly Hot Spot Worship event. Earn LAUNCH points for attending.


Friday, September 6

10:30 am – 12:30 pm Church and Service Showcase (The Commons)

Explore opportunities to get involved in the Hamilton community and obtain more info about churches to attend. Various organizations and churches will have displays set up in the commons. Connect with organizations to ask about avenues of service or take the chance to explore potential internship opportunities, and talk to pastors/church leaders to find a church community you can be a part of.

5 pm – 7 pm – Food Drive for Neighbour to Neighbour (Meadowlands Fellowship Church)

Come to Meadowlands Fellowship Church (back of campus) for FREE Pizza before we start gathering food in the Neighbourhood.   Pizza will be served from 5pm – 5:30pm, and then teams will be sent out.  LAUNCH Teams will be collecting food along the same route they dropped off bags on.   Please wear your Redeemer t-shirt for this event.  No bandanas please.  If it is unsafe weather, the collection time will be moved to Saturday, September 12 at 10:00am.  (Attendance = 5 LAUNCH points)  

9 pm – Decade Dance (Rec Centre)

Dress up, go retro and boogie the night away with old and new friends. The Decade Dance has been a tradition at Redeemer for over twenty years!


Saturday, September 7

1pm/3pm – Soccer Games

Come cheer on the Redeemer Royals as they open the soccer season at home.   Dress up in Royals Red and learn the cheers and chants that make Redeemer fans known among the OCAA as the most passionate and loyal fans!   The Women’s game begins at 1pm and the Men’s game starts at 3pm.

9 pm – Outdoor Movie Night (Quad)

Meet in the Quad for this fun filled night of relaxation, sweets, popcorn, refreshments and cotton candy!


Sunday, September 8

Enjoy a relaxing Sunday and check out a new church!

9 pm Campus-wide Capture-The-Flag (Rec Centre)

All students in residence are encouraged to join in on this super fun activity. Afterwards, the Rec Centre will be open late for those who want to hang out and play games, watch movies, play ping pong or pool.


Monday, September 9

11 am Time Management and Semester Planning – Study Smart Seminar (Room 212A)

All new students are welcome to learn valuable study skills during this informative 45 minutes session presented by Learning Services.  Each attendee will earn 5 LAUNCH points simply by attending.


Wednesday, September 11

11 am Chapel (Auditorium)

4:45 pm Communal meal and Cooper Cup Presentation (Dining Hall)

Make sure you’re at this Communal meal to hear which LAUNCH team won the Cooper Cup. The winning team will be announced at 5:30 pm.

6 pm – 10 pm Redeemer Royals Soccer (North Field)

Come see what varsity athletics is all about at Redeemer and cheer on your Redeemer royals. You will see that even though you aren’t on the playing field, you are an integral part of the team as a fan. Being part of any team takes practice, so this first game is a great introduction and opportunity to practice the various songs, chants and team-spirit you’ll need as the Royals make a run for the play-offs.


Thursday, September 12

5:30pm – 6:30pm Campus Wide Invite a Commuter to Dorm Dinner Day

Invite a commuter to your dorm for dinner. Need suggestions on who to invite, contact our commuter student advisors Joseph Johnston or Michelle Wright.


Friday, September 13

6pm – Hamilton Supercrawl Trip

Sign up in Student Life for a guided city bus trip to Hamilton’s premier FREE festival Supercrawl. This local festival includes live music, visual art, theatre, food, crafts and much more. Don’t forget cash for Hamilton’s legendary food trucks.

That time doesn’t work for you? Grab your student card and hop on the bus to get there on your own! Check out for details.

6pm – 10pm Deedz Kick-Off (Rec Centre)

Travel downtown and experience this unique grassroots ministry started by Redeemer students as participants share conversation and hot chocolate with citizens of the city.  This ministry is often mentioned as a highlight of the Redeemer University experience.


Saturday, September 14

4 pm – 11pm Niagara Falls Trip (Meet at Athletic Centre Doors)

Redeemer is sending a bus-load of students to spend the evening beside this amazing natural wonder.   There’s lots to do such as hike along the promenade, enjoy dinner near the falls, and check Clifton Hill including the new go-kart track called Niagara Speedway.  Transportation is free but bring along money for dinner and entertainment.   The bus leaves the falls at 10pm to return to Redeemer.  Hurry to sign up in Student Life as there are a limited # of spots.


September 19-22

Ancaster Fair

Each year, the town of Ancaster gathers to enjoy a weekend of rides, food, animals, and competitions. Also, there are smash-up derbies Thursday, Friday and Saturday night. There are HSR shuttle buses from the Meadowlands shopping area. For more information visit:
