Christian Legal Fellowship, in partnership with Redeemer University, presents its first annual Public Law Lecture Series. This lecture series aims to educate the Christian community on legal issues from a distinctly Christian perspective and inspire Christians to pursue a career in law as a vocation or a ministry.

This series kicks off at Redeemer, with constitutional lawyer and professor André Schutten speaking on “Canadian Law for the Public Good: Reforming the Moral Foundations of Our Legal System.” The Christian worldview has contributed greatly to the Western legal tradition, yet this deep connection is facing critical fractures, requiring thoughtful Christian engagement in the legal academy, the courts and beyond. By heeding the lessons of the past and seizing today’s opportunities, Christians can enter the vocation of law with hopeful resolve and missional calling.

Following the lecture, there will be a discussion and Q&A with a panel of several Christian leaders and legal professionals. All are welcome to join us on May 16, 2024, at 7:30 p.m. for a free and engaging evening of learning, worship, reflection and dialogue. Reception to follow in the Redeemer Art Gallery.

André Schutten is an adjunct professor at Redeemer University and senior legal counsel and director of training and development at Christian Legal Fellowship. He has been practicing constitutional law for more than 12 years and has argued before five courts of appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada. Schutten previously worked as general legal counsel with the Association for Reformed Political Action and was an adjunct faculty at Trinity Western University’s Laurentian Leadership Centre.
