The Position

Reporting to the Director of Athletics, The Athletic Therapist Manager (ATM) works with the circle of care medical team, varsity student-athletes, coaches and student therapists in injury education, prevention, recognition, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, and performance enhancement. The Athletic Therapist must be able to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends, and act as the lead therapist at home events. Supervision of student placements is also required.

This is a 100%FTE role for 9 months

Responsibilities

  • Injury education, prevention, recognition, evaluation, management and rehabilitation and referring injuries to alternate medical care as necessary.
  • Work with various invested groups, including Student-Athletes, Athletics staff, allied Healthcare professionals, coaches, and the Royals Circle of Care Medical Team.
  • Athlete rehabilitation programming, load monitoring and progressions for return to full training & competition.
  • Advertise for, select, supervise, and educate students and professional interns who serve as part of the AT Team.
  • Coordinate CPR certification for all Athletics staff.
  • Maintain regular Athletic Therapy Centre hours (20-30 week).
  • Provide direct supervision or game coverage of all varsity league, tournament, and exhibition home games.
  • Work with the Director to develop an annual budget and maintain financial records associated with the AT program.
  • Maintain an appropriate inventory of supplies and equipment necessary to operate a high-performance program.
  • Communicate regularly with administration and the Royals Circle of Care Team in developing, implementing, maintaining and enforcing medical policies and procedures.
  • Work with the Health and Wellness Centre, Learning Services, and the Mental Health Case Manager to ensure best practices and student-athlete care.
  • Create, educate and enforce all sports Emergency Action Plans.
  • Ensure a safe and compliant work environment and act in a manner that exemplifies the mission of the Athletics Department and the University.
  • Attend meetings within the Athletic Department.
  • Completing various administrative duties at the request of the Athletic Director

Preferred Skills and Attributes

  • Previous experience in university athletics and higher education is highly desirable.
  • Passionate commitment to the Reformed confessional tradition and ability to clearly and effectively articulate it for a multi-denominational audience
  • Proficiency in JaneApp, Google Suite, Zoom, HeadCheck and Powerpoint

Education, Training & Certifications

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a related area to the duties listed above.
  • Specialized training in Athletic Therapy or Physiotherapy is required.

One of the following:

  • Certified Athletic Therapist CAT(C) with current 1st Responder Certification or Equivalent
  • Sports Physiotherapist – Level 2, 3 with current 1st Responder Certification
  • ATC (USA) with current 1st Responder Certification
  • Equivalent qualifications to CAT(C) will be considered.
  • Previous work experience (3+ years) working with athletes and coaches at a high-performance level.

Other Requirements

  • Understanding and commitment to Redeemer University (mission, values, and Reformed Christian identity)
  • The ability and desire to work successfully within a team-oriented department environment.
  • Ability to do light physical work such as setting up nets and training equipment.
