The Position

Reporting to the Library Director, the Library Technician supports the research and learning needs of the Redeemer community through the acquisition and processing of library materials in all formats. Developing and maintaining strong working relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders, this role requires a self-motivated, detail-oriented individual with experience processing invoices, reconciling credit card statements, and maintaining accurate records of payment.

Please note that this is a 90%FTE role classified as PT

Responsibilities

  • Order library resources, including print and electronic materials, databases, serials, and library supplies
  • Communicate regularly with vendors to request quotes, submit orders, and follow up to ensure that payments have been received
  • Perform derived cataloguing activities for all library materials, and identify materials for which original cataloguing is required
  • Monitor expenditures to ensure sufficient funds are available for materials being purchased
  • Prepare a monthly acquisitions report outlining expenditures and remaining funds for all academic departments
  • Process and pay all library invoices
  • Supervise student staff in labelling and processing new acquisitions and donations
  • Participate in collection development in assigned subject areas
  • Provide exceptional customer service at circulation desk, as needed

Preferred Skills and Attributes

  • Demonstrated organizational and administrative skills, including ability to manage multiple demands and changing priorities
  • Strong knowledge of Library of Congress Classification, MARC records, RDA, and AACR2
  • Strong knowledge of automated library systems (experience with OCLC WorldShare Management Services preferred)
  • Problem-solving orientation, with a commitment to finding ways to continually improve services and streamline processes
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a team environment
  • Superior interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, from vendors to faculty
  • Strong customer service orientation

Education, Training & Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree is required
  • Library Technician Diploma is strongly preferred
  • Minimum of two years of recent relevant experience, ideally in an academic library environment

  • Understanding of Redeemer University (mission, values, and Reformed Christian identity)
