The Position

The social media creator (SMC) is an experienced content marketer with a gift for giving brands a voice and building an engaged audience across Redeemer’s social media platforms. Comfortable in a flexible, yet fast-paced work environment, the SMC maintains a posting calendar by creating engaging content with writing, video, photos and graphic design. In addition to content creation, the SMC is responsible for social media community engagement and reputation management, responding to questions and comments and proactively interacting with individuals and organizations. Occasionally, the SMC’s skills in photography and videography support the university’s wider media needs.

Responsibilities

Social media content creation

  • Maintains a content calendar for all platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, TikTok, LinkedIn, Google Business, etc.)
  • Attends institutional, academic, athletic and student events to capture visual assets
  • Captures raw content from the daily activities happening at the university
  • Produces finished video, photo and graphic assets for social media and other digital platforms
  • Creates and posts daily content with consistent brand voice and follows trends and strategic best practices

Social media community engagement and reputation management

  • Implements the social media plan to build an engaged audience across platforms
  • Responds to comments, questions, mentions and shares in a timely manner
  • Proactively engages with individuals, groups, partners, businesses and organizations
  • Manages a weekly budget for amplifying content and works with an external digital ad partner to support social media advertising
  • Helps develop social media plan with KPIs, supports efforts to track results and reports metrics and insights
  • Guides student content creators and collaborates with other university personnel to encourage their use of social media to promote Redeemer

Institutional media support

  • Records simple interviews, messages and other promotional video content for various departments
  • Captures photos/videos for print collateral, news stories, web, email and the Redeemer app
  • Assists with management of digital asset archives

Preferred Skills and Attributes

  • Experience writing and producing creative, storytelling social media content; Non-profit experience an asset
  • Proficiency with photo/video/design equipment and software editing/design tools, is a MUST
  • A strong eye for typography and aesthetics, and the ability to curate content for social media
  • Administrative, organization, time and project management skills with a strong ability to prioritize tasks
  • Knowledge of communication best practices and strategic storytelling on social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube, Google Business, etc.)
  • Experience with platform management for an institution, scheduling and monitoring through platforms like Sprout Social
  • A customer service attitude, networking and interpersonal skills

Education, Training & Certifications

  • A diploma or bachelor’s degree in digital media, communications or a similar discipline plus two or more years of professional experience creating content and managing social media for an organization.
  • Experience in social media communications for a missional or non-profit organization would be an asset.

Other Requirements

  • Thorough understanding of Redeemer University (mission, values, and Reformed Christian identity) and the ability to translate into engaging content that reflect the institution’s mission.
