Fitting for this university setting, several of Iles’ works feature young protagonists. Perhaps disenfranchised within a world that is not of their making, these characters are at points of decision.

Drawing from Julia Gladstone's background as a visual artist, musician and mother, "Lullabies in Exile" presents reinterpretations of ancient Judaeo-Spanish lullabies that mothers sang to their children during their long walks into exile and escape from persecution.

Through incorporations of painting, sculpture, video, digital print, drawing, and collage, this exhibition brings together ten contemporary artists to reflect deeply on sections of the Biblical passion narratives.

There are 13 artworks in this exhibition. Each is made using Fujimura’s distinctive integration of gestural abstraction and traditional Japanese nihonga processes. The fragility and mineral beauty of nihonga rewards close, contemplative looking.
