In an increasingly globalized world, it is imperative to develop the capacity to learn from, work with and appreciate different cultures and perspectives. In Redeemer's Urban Ministry program, you will be confronted with both intercultural and urban contexts, learning what it means to announce, demonstrate and embody the good news of the Kingdom of God, resulting in the transformation and flourishing of communities.
Urban Ministry is a Bachelor of Arts degree program offered as an emphasis within the Mission and Ministry program. It is offered as an honours major.

Right from the start, you're learning to understand your own cultural formation and how it can both help and hinder meaningful ministry.
First-year courses provide a broad overview of topics that are critical to ministry and Christian faith, including a foundational understanding of the Bible. Gain an awareness, as well as the necessary tools, to serve effectively in churches, ministries and community organizations. Class discussions, lead by dedicated and experienced professors, give the opportunity to understand worldview from the perspective of other denominational and cultural backgrounds.

Create a strong foundation for ministry in courses like Spiritual Formation for Ministry, while also grounding yourself in our cultural context in courses like Gospel, Church and Culture. Equip yourself with the tools for effective ministry with courses focusing on practical skills like Foundations of Evangelism and Discipleship.
In the senior-level Poverty and Urban Development Design Project course, students are given the tools to design projects that will contribute to the well-being of the community from a uniquely Christian perspective with the opportunity to participate in existing community projects.
Participate in two 8-month paid work placements or two internships as part of the urban ministry co-op program, where you will learn from and network with people who are actively serving in ministry. Take your passion for ministry into Hamiltonās downtown through a variety of volunteer opportunities such as Deedzāa weekly program where a small group of students go downtown to offer hot chocolate and conversation to those on the street.
