“What in the world isn’t chemistry?” That’s a slogan that’s often found in chemistry labs. When you really think about it, all of God’s physical creation is, indeed, composed of chemicals!
At Redeemer, you will investigate the chemical and physical properties of different elements, compounds and their mixtures. You will also learn to explain reactions and properties using theoretical models. We see chemistry as a basic science which explores the intricacies and the structure of the physical universe, a science which gives you a window on the beauty and order of the world God put together. Thus, studying chemistry will help you to understand better some of the very significant environmental problems facing our world.
On the other hand, the slogan, “What in the world isn’t chemistry?” reduces the complexity of the whole creation to its chemical makeup. But chemistry is only one aspect of studying creation. That’s why, as part of your study of chemistry, we also expect you to take courses in other disciplines, to both enrich your own learning and to broaden the context in which you learn chemistry. That broader context will make you aware of how to use science and technology in a responsible and stewardly way.
With our relatively small classes, you have an opportunity to really get to know your professor as well as your fellow students. With labs every week and the opportunity to serve as a lab assistant in your senior years, Redeemer’s chemistry concentration provides a solid foundation for you to understand the dynamic and complex nature of the world you live in.
Deep friendships with the staff, faculty, and students made Laura’s time at Redeemer memorable.
