Where do compassion, ethics and faith fit in modern science?
The concepts of health and disease have been shaped by the philosophical ideas and religious commitments that have influenced Western culture. Redeemer’s Pre-Medicine program helps students develop a biblical perspective on health, well-being, disease and medical ethics in addition to a comprehensive study of foundational topics and applicable skills to prepare for the MCAT exam and to apply to medical school.
Pre-Medicine is a Bachelor of Science degree program. It is offered as an honours major.

Redeemer’s interdisciplinary Health Sciences - Pre-Medicine program studies the relevant issues and concepts impacting human health today and asks questions in light of a Reformed Christian worldview. Learning about the factors that impact human health and well-being prepares you to exemplify Christian compassion, integrity and respect to those who are unwell, disabled, chronically ill or mentally ill.
The Core Curriculum is a set of 10 courses that every student takes. The courses are woven through every major and get you to think deeply and broadly about what you’re studying. Think about it this way…
Courses like Determinants of Health, Inquiry of Issues in Health and Biomedical Ethics will focus on developing your critical thinking, analytical and scientific writing skills. Small classes taught by dedicated professors who are experts in their field mean you will conduct and critically assess research as you review the methods, concepts and findings of contemporary medical researchers and experiments.
Students in the Health Sciences have access to different facilities to give opportunities for practice and hands-on learning. In the pathology lab, students and faculty can safely and professionally study bacteria and viruses and the response of immune systems to them. The human kinetics lab provides space and biomeasurement systems for students and faculty to take on sophisticated monitoring of the impacts of aging, blood flow and physical activity.
