Executive Summary of the Health Sciences program review (Fall 2019)
As part of the institutional quality assurance process, the Health Sciences completed a Self-Study of its programs in September 2019. A review team comprised of two external and one internal reviewer performed a site visit on November 22, 2019, meeting with students, faculty, and relevant support staff and senior administration. The team subsequently submitted an External Reviewers’ Report for consideration by the department, the Dean of Science, the Vice-President (Academic), and the Academic Quality Assurance Committee.
The review team praised the high degree of passion, drive, and dedication of the faculty instructors in the Health Sciences program. The reviewers highlighted the integration of Redeemer’s mission and vision into the program, woven into the fabric of each course. With a strong record of student completion and success, the Health Sciences at Redeemer received very favourable responses from graduates of the program. Current students make excellent use of internships that provide them with invaluable experiential learning in the Health Sciences. The small class sizes help make this program pedagogically effective, as evidenced by the impressive frequency of Health Science students on the Dean’s Honours and Provost’s Honours lists. The reviewers recommended some adjustments to the program requirements and course offerings to ensure coverage, availability, and flexibility. Health Sciences is a good quality program with many strong characteristics, and the relatively minor suggestions for improvement will see this young program grow into the new decade.
