Executive Summary Report for the review of the Kinesiology and Physical Education program – 2022/2023

As part of Redeemer’s institutional quality assurance process, the Kinesiology and Physical Education (KPE) faculty completed a Self‐Study Report of their programs in September 2022. A review team composed of two external and one internal reviewer performed a visit on November 11, meeting with students, faculty, and relevant support staff and senior administration. The review team submitted a final External Reviewers’ Report on January 18, 2023.

The reviewers praised the programs’ coherent structure and logical curricular flow, as well as the commitment the faculty have both to the program and its students, but also to the overall mission and vision of Redeemer University. The new B.Kin. program was acknowledged as being a positive development for the program area and an appropriate program offering for Redeemer’s circumstances and students’ interests and professional aspirations. The reviewers also noted opportunities to strengthen the program through additional staffing and increased space and equipment resourcing. A few curricular improvements were also suggested, including the addition of a senior-level exercise training experience and deeper connections with the Athletics department to grow and share equipment resourcing.

Based on their Response, approved by the Academic Quality Assurance Committee (AQAC) on April 21, 2023, the KPE faculty and Redeemer administration have carefully considered the External Reviewers’ Report and prepared a concrete plan, with a timeline, to strengthen the program in response to the recommendations. This plan was approved by Redeemer’s Senate on May 15, 2023.
